We continue with our blog section: Member’s Interview! In this section, we will be able to discover more about the ways companies find themselves on COBCOE Connects or be.connected and, particularly, about their successes on the platform. Today we had the pleasure to interview Business Development Consultant Amy Anderson from DP&L Travel Management.
“COBCOE Connects can connect you with 1000s of companies in a number of countries”
DP&L Travel Management learned about Connects through the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce and the personal support from the moderator is key to making the platform work for the company.
“We think it’s great that Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce have Hayley sitting in the background looking after everything with COBCOE and sending over an email if anything pops up. We heavily rely on the support we get from the chamber to push our content and spot opportunities for us.”
DP&L Travel Management has up to now relied on the traditional ways of creating business development opportunities: attending events – chamber and non-chamber as well as exhibitions, email campaigns, cold calling, and visiting potential businesses. It is early days for the company in using digital connections, but one or 2 leads have been generated with follow up from the wider moderator community: “We’ve reached out to one opportunity – now waiting on a response as the British French Chamber is acting as the middle person to help us make contact”
Up to now, Connects has mainly “provided another outlet to advertise our services”. The company at present would recommend the platform as a passive channel to market. “If you are just looking for another avenue and happy for it to sit there and wait, then we certainly would recommend it”
In term of geographic coverage, one of the most useful features of the platform is that “COBCOE Connects can connect you with 1000s of companies in a number of countries” For the future, it would be good to extend the coverage to larger markets such as North America and Asia (China).
However, one lesson emerging is that you do have to work at getting the most out of the platform.
“The idea of the platform is great, but we could be doing so much more with it – It takes time, it is not going to provide instant results unless DACC members use the support that they provide”
And lessons for TIAO, the company behind the Connects platform development?
“It’s not the most user-friendly of sites” To which we say – watch this space. There is more development on the pipeline over the coming months. We’ll make sure that Company A is one of the first to hear about it!
